  • Is there is any W.I.P Pages i would edit? c:

      Loading editor
    • There are many unit and building pages that lack information in their Overview section (information like when to use the unit, how to use the unit properly, etc.). Just make sure to use proper spelling and grammar. For starters, head towards the Warturtle page.

However, if by any chance you are completely new to Mental Omega (or even Red Alert 2), I suggest you play the entire campaign first (in any order) before starting to edit here.

    • I do have Yuri's Revenge. Not to mention i had trouble installing Mental Omega APYR.

  • It seems we're now safe to say that the build speed issue has been solved. All current calculations are correct (although not precise, achieving which requires too much excessive work).

The remaining problem is, in Unholy Alliance and Ultimate Alliance mode, the BuildSpeed is changed (0.6 => 0.55). Which makes some gamemode-wise information on the wiki incorrect (e.g. Palace).

(And Mental AI option too, which I believe is a bug and have reported on Revora.)

      Loading editor
    • Well that's a relief that the calculations are right. As for the other game modes, I'll consider fixing them some other time, once I'm finished with the interlinking with Chinese MO wiki (only Allied, Campaign and Neutral pages remain)

        Loading editor
    • "Fixing" means we'll have to add a new build time row for every single unit/structure. Please consider twice before doing this.

    • Speeder: Mental AI BuildSpeed boost is intended :/

Guess we'll have to work on it anyway.

  • Minutes ago I clicked revert option by mistake, and  the subsequent writing back didn't work due to network issue. Sorry for that.

      Loading editor
    • That explains why I didn't see any changes, which I thought was a network problem too. Alrighty then, it's no big deal, just be more careful next time.

  • At the end of the year, I feel it is necessary to do a summary of the completion of the to-do list here, although you are absent from our wiki these days..

1 - Add all appropriate values (firepower, sight, turn rate, etc.) in unit and building pages
Nikitazero is doing that comprehensively these days, prehaps it will be finished soon.

2 - Finish all changelogs for every unit, building, even missions
All mission changelogs completed, unit changelogs is ongoing - quite tough, and there's stil too much to be added

3 - Adding gifs for several pages to improve quality and to explain what static images could not
At the moment I am not able to make gifs, the one who may only be able to continue to do the work is you... at least for now.

4 - Revise faction info and mission Events sections
IIRC faction info is all changed to official description now. As for the mission events.. perhaps rewriting it will be waited after a long time.

    5 - Adding several gameplay-related pages
Still in a to-do state, maybe PACER will write a bit.

6 - Revise Overview section into a more bulleted format
Afraid that rewriting them will be waited after a long time as well...

7 - Complete History pages of faction and subfaction pages
    That's what I'm doing currently.

8 - Still awaiting word about the fate of the alleged official Mental Omega wiki
Speeder gave a conclusion some time ago: he does not intend to officialize our wiki.

    B-project - Finish old contents
Though the progress is very slow, I have already planned to start adding a lot of old version information, e.g. some of the old subfaction pages are added these days.

    • My absence from the wiki is due to mostly real life problems and on a smaller scale, contributing to another wiki and of course, vacation time leading to gaming. I'll return to contributing on my free time.

I'll be honest, that to-do list was intended to be more of a personal matter, since I wanted to show others what are my intentions for the wiki, rather than a message for all active wiki contributors. But it doesn't mean that I don't appreciate the effort done to the wiki; it's stellar to see that the wiki is not completely left behind.

Speeder gave a conclusion some time ago: he does not intend to officialize our wiki."

He also said on the forums that he doesn't plan to make a wiki in the end. Why not officialize this? I don't get Speeder's logic?

        Loading editor
    • It's not official as Speeder and the other Mentalmeisters don't directly contribute in the wiki. Currently, only Ollerus (maker of Tainted Empire and other maps) has directly contributed in the wiki.

And also, where i can ask questions like that?

  • Adding weapon DMG & ROF data to the side bar might sound appealing, but what I can assure you is that it takes far more work than one thought, and even more to make the numbers accurate.

Let's take the INIT at edit #40233 for example.

    • The terminology "plate" and "medium" doesn't make sense for non-mappers. A dedicated armor type sheet might be needed as well.
    • The garrison weapon's DMG is incorrect due to the universal OccupyDamageMultiplier modifier of 1.2.
    • The ROF's calculation is not nearly as simple. In addition to OccupyROFMultiplier, it appears the more units garrisoned inside, the faster each of them fires. I've been discussing this with Alex and even his model cannot fit to the experiment results. (And that's exactly why I haven't updated the Garrisoning page for a long time).
    • And all of this is subject to changements. For example if Speeder suddenly made up his mind and changed BuildTimeInfantryMult, guess how much rework is required on every InfantryType's data.

With a most simple weapon, INIT's weapon data still takes almost half a page. I'm dreadfully curious what FT Alpha and Yunru's page would look like :P

    • One weapon for 1 basic infantry sure is a headache, I'd have to admit.

As for the armor type terminoligies, they are used by the website and sometimes changelog, so it would be more understandable.

Oh-ho, by mentioning how complicated Garrisoning is, I may have to omit ROF for garrisoning completely.

Overall, I personally think that adding and calculating all these ROF and damage values is a huge undertaking for one contributor.

  • Greetings, administrator. Sorry to bother you but I have something say to you, which I am considering currently.

    1. Branch pages about heroes. I created the Character branch page for hero was to imitate C&C Wiki's planning of the hero page, and was designed to summarize the characters' status in the story (like the protagonists, Yuri and Romanov, e.g.) rather than add some subjective elements. If the idea is still not agreed, the Changelog and Gallery branch needn't be existed as well.

    2. Division of unit's Appearances. You currently intend to separate Act One, Act Two, Cooperative, and Covert Ops to prevent some sort of confusion. However, I have found that, since the order of tech-unlocking for different types of single player missions is related to each other, the separation of all single player missions will lead to a downside: some unit's Appearances might be repeated. For example, if Act Two and Covert Ops were separated, Abrams Tank, Riot Trooper and Aeroblaze would be written "Appear as build/trainable unit in Obstinate (earlier) & Appear as build/trainable unit in Ghost Hunt (formal mission, #16)". In contrast, the tech-unlock in the Cooperative missions has nothing to do with the single player mission, such as Buratino, in single player missions, it is unlocked in Death From Above, whereas in the Cooperative mission it is unlocked very early: Needlehead (the first co-op mission). Additionally, it is not necessary to write all unit's Appearances in Cooperative missions, just write out the situation that a unit appears earlier than that in single player missions. Therefore, in my opinion, differentiate Appearances between the single player mission and the Cooperative mission is sufficient.

    • 1. Since the Character subpage was quite empty at the time, I removed it because there's the possibility that a "fanfic" sort of writing would appear there. Besides, any character development/background is already somewhat explained in official description, while the appearances section clears out the status of those characters, whether they're dead imprisoned or whatsoever (e.g. Morales dies canonically in Thread of Dread.

Also, the changelog and gallery subpages should be kept, so the main page won't feel overloaded with information.

BUT, if you want to continue with this Character subpage, I'd give you a second chance. However, if it is too similar to other sections (Appearances especially) or it reaches the point of becoming fanfic material, I'd flip the switch. For now, type it in the main page.

      2. I see your point. Considering a slight tweak on that Appearance section on some units that have this issue later.

    • I see, thanks.

    • I feel like the only appropriate division is one between challenges and missions (and, optionally, single player and co-op among the latter). Further division between individual acts is rather unnecessary and engenders more problems with listing.

        Loading editor
    • Late response, but anyways...

The addition of individual acts was partly for the sake of the Table of Contents section to recognize the separation, and the other half being to make the Appearances section less of a mesmerizing wall of bulleted text. Perhaps I'd find a more appropriate way of organizing these missions, but for now it will suffice.

  • A welcoming addition indeed. However I fear that much of it will be rendered obsolete by the incoming patch 3.3.4.

      Loading editor
    • tbh, most of the additions are simply directly copied from your blog about AI behaviors. If those AI behavior sections can be further expanded, it would be much appreciated (such as if A.I. deploys reinforcement powers like Tank Drop more likely on undefended areas than those with stationary defenses.)

Obsolete they might be in the upcoming patch, but if it means improvement on how the A.I. uses support powers (especially Overcharge and similar support powers; whether or not they will use  support powers that they currently don't like Risen Inferno and Chronoshift), it would be fantastic.

  • I feel like some of these removals (that of Rashidi, the Terror Drone prototype or the Rocket Launchpad for example) were unnecessary. I think we might need a forum thread or something like that where units have to be proposed and discussed for inclusion before they could be added to the template.

      • In vanilla RA2 A12 Chrono Storm, your units even auto-attack Russian flags...
      • The Wiki is for newbies too. We better not to risk confusing them with the same hero in two factions. Just write a little more on Yunru's page instead.
      • Since they are too few in number to cause any potential conflict, how about completely removing them from the template?
        Loading editor
    • Maybe I should undo this mass removal once and for all, to end this debating. After all, this is entirely my fault.

Edit: I've considered your points, Arya Snow and PACERRECAP regarding the inclusions of units/buildings. Guess I'll only undo as a last resort.

  • Hi,

Do we need to replace the character pictures of those two with their in-game units? Anyways, there is no any FMV cutscenes in every missions in Mental Omega.

    Thank you

      Loading editor
    • Since that's the case in Soviet General's and Yuri's page, I say that in-game unit is the way to go.

        Loading editor
    • Also on Einstein too since he never appears in the campaign but his in-game unit only appeared in one Skirmish map which is Circuit Board.
